Betty Jo Runyon Walter November 1, 1933 - January 5, 2025 Betty Jo Walter, 91, of Largo, Florida (formerly of Ashland, KY) passed away at home, under Hospice Care, on January 5, 2025, with her family by her side. Mrs. Walter was born to the late James “Jack” Vernon and Gertrude Helen Runyon on November 1, 1933, in Ashland, Kentucky. Mrs. Walter graduated from Ashland High School in 1951. After raising her eight children, Mrs. Walter was employed by Ashland Oil and later, Russell High School. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Mrs. Walter was preceded in death by her husband, Marquis de Lafayette Walter; parents, James and Gertrude Runyon; a grandson, James Russell “Rusty” Burke; a sister, Dorothy “Dot” Jean Menefee, and a brother, Jack Harvey Runyon; seven brothers-in-law, Bill Menefee, Steve Moore, Jack, John Paul, Dick, and Grady Walter, Bob Nipp Sr.; and three sisters-in-law, Cathy Runyon, Norida Nipp, and Patsy Walter. Mrs. Walter is survived by her eight children, John Randy, Mark (Pam), Jacque (Dale), Jeanie (Jon), Jim, Beverly, Danny (Julie), and Mary Beth; twelve grandchildren, Angela (Matt), Cristin (Chris), Matthew (Amanda), Mandee (Tammy), Anna, Bonnie (Khemaran), Shelby, Zachary, Ryan, Samantha (Ricky), Tori (Brandon), and Trent; twenty great grandchildren, Malia, Alayna, Isaiah, Noah, Sydney, Anniston, Paisley, Tyler, Micah, Austin, Madison, Nathan, Devan, Kiley, Ben, Ryleigh, Levi, Lexi, Brenton, and Khalil; a sister, Linda Moore; and a brother, Fred Runyon (Susan); one brother-in-law, Theodore “Ted” Walter; and four sisters-in-law, Sylvia, Jenny, Carole, and Sue Walter. Mrs. Walter is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended loved ones. Mrs. Walter enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, quilting, traveling, playing cards, watching sports (UK football and basketball, Tampa Bay Bucs, Rays, and Lightning), horse racing, bingo, going to the pool and beach, organizing parties and reunions, but most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland, Kentucky with Reverend Marty Gute Officiating. Her final resting place will be at the Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland. Family viewing will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday January 18, 2025 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Rusty Burke Scholarship Fund.
