Ronald Gene Dixon, 78, of Ashland passed away Thursday March 30, 2017 at Community Hospice Care Center surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born February 7, 1939 in Ashland, the son of the late Lloyd and Mable Brown Dixon. He graduated from Ashland High School, served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and Kentucky National Guard and retired from General Telephone Company. A talented musician, he was most recently a member of the bluegrass gospel group, The Chadwicks Creek Boys. He was also a member of the Ashland Gideons, a volunteer chaplain for KDMC, and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he taught the Crusaders Sunday School class for over 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Joan Lambert, Barbara Hazlett and Linda Dixon; a son, Rick Dixon; and a daughter, Amy Dixon. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Carol Greening Dixon; a daughter, Rhonda Dixon of Columbus, OH; a granddaughter, Whitney J. Dixon of Highland Heights, KY; a sister, Nancy Eastwood of Cincinnati, OH; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and close friends. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday April 2, 2017 at Centenary United Methodist Church on Winchester Ave. in Ashland with Pastor David Herndon officiating. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
