Marilyn Elizabeth McGuire Wells

August 28, 1931 - June 13, 2021

Marilyn Elizabeth McGuire Wells, known affectionately as “Mickey,” passed away Sunday morning , June 13, 2021 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was 89. Mickey was born in Lawrence County, Kentucky to the late George R. and Neva J. Blankenship McGuire. She was a 1949 graduate of Ashland Senior High School. She retired from King’s Daughters Medical Center and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Mickey was sweet, kind, compassionate and devoted to her family. Her sense of humor brought joy to those around her and comfort to many who were sick, elderly or alone. Besides her parents, Mickey was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis F. Wells Sr., her brother, George R. McGuire Jr., and her best friend of 70-plus years, Carole J. Brewer. Survivors include her children Elizabeth A. Wells of Riviera Beach, Florida, James M. Wells (Molinda) of Louisville, Lewis F. Wells Jr. of Ashland and Rebecca J. Sparks (Jerry) of Ashland; her sisters Ellen Pruitt of Louisville and Neva McGuire of Ashland; her grandchildren, Amy Wells Gillespie of Crown City, Ohio, Chad A. Thacker of Chicago, and Julia Sparks Wheeler and Benjamin Sparks, both of Ashland; a great-grandson, Joshua Gillespie of Crown City, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Miller Funeral Home followed by services at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Michael A. McAlister of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
