James (Jim) Dustin Meek
June 2, 1939 - December 29, 2016
James (Jim) Dustin Meek, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on December 29, 2016. Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Norma Meek, and his two children, Dustin Elizabeth Meek (married to Marc Murphy) and James Tyler Meek (married to Robyn Layne Meek). He was never without a smile when he spoke of his six grandchildren: 1LT John William Murphy (27), Peter Matthew Murphy (25), James "Jay" Patrick Murphy (20), Layne Anthony Meek (17), McKinney "Mac" Andrew Meek (15), and Abigail "Abby" Rose Meek (12), and his dog, Scooby (9). Jim is the son of Calvin and Lena Meek of Cattletsburg, Ky., and the brother of Brenda Meek, all of whom predeceased him. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland, was a retired employee of AK Steel, and one of the founders of Total Quality Management, Inc. He graduated from Ashland High School and attended the University of Kentucky, where he played basketball (1957-58), and Morehead University, where he played tennis. Jim served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Elks Club for 39 years. Jim taught us all that life was not complicated, as long as you worked hard, loved your family, showed kindness to others at all times, shot par for the course, and cheered for the Cats! A celebration of Jim's happy life will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Miller Funeral Home, 1941Carter Avenue, Ashland, Kentucky with Rev. John Street officiating. Visitation will be held from 11-1 pm, with memorial service beginning at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Paramount Arts Center 1300 Winchester Ave. Ashland, KY 41101 or the Ashland Animal Rescue Fund (AARF) P.O. Box 2061 Ashland, KY 41105, both of which are very special to the family.
