Iva Jean Blanton was taken from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Friday morning July 17, 2015. Jean was born in Breathitt County June 15, 1925 to Ethel and Johny Montgomery. First and foremost in her life was a profound dedication to her children. They were her proudest accomplishments. Jean was a “Rosie the Riveter” in WWII –at Patterson Air Base in Dayton, Ohio where she helped build and repair airplane parts necessary for the war effort and a former employee of Chimney Corner Restaurant. Jean was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by three sisters; Joy Walters, Phyllis Montgomery and Lois Douglas, two brothers; Jim Montgomery and Donald Montgomery. Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years Clyde W. Blanton Sr., two daughters; Barbara (John) Perkins and Paula (Mike) Hogsten both of Ashland, KY, three sons; Bill (Toni) Blanton of Wurtland, KY, John Blanton of Ashland, KY and Chris Blanton of Myrtle Beach, SC, one sister Jonie “Chug” Parker of Trenton, Mich., 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 PM Monday at Miller Funeral Home by Rev. Scott Hill. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM till 12:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. She leaves her family to treasure her memories and to daily miss her presence, comfort and words of wisdom. As a mother, Jean instilled in each of her children a strong sense of patriotism and love of country. She was counted as a blessing to each of her children and husband.
