Genie Ann Clay

March 1, 1932 - September 16, 2016

Genie A. Webb Clay, 84, of Ashland died Friday September 16, 2016 at Hospice Care Center. She was born March 1, 1932 in Ashland, KY the daughter of the late John W. and Mattie Queen Webb. She was a former Opthalmic Technician and Surgery Coordinator for over 33 years from Tri-State Opthamology originally working for her mentor, Dr. Gordon Gussler. She was also a former member of the Order of Eastern Star, a Kentucky Colonel, and a life long member of Second Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Billie “Red” Clay in 2007; a daughter, Johnda Barker in 2012; infant granddaughter; three brothers, J.B. Webb, Junior Webb, and Chan Webb; and four sisters Catherine Blevins, Tootsie Swann, Georgene Gardner, and Loraine Lawson. She is survived by five children, Robert “Bob” Clay (Rita) of Columbus, NE, Catherine “Cathy” Pennington (Duane) of Lexington, KY, Jennie Lynn Whitt (Eddie) of Ashland, Rebecca “Becky Clay (Larry Davis) of Ashland, Bruce Clay (Charlotte) of Catlettsburg, KY; one sister, Donna Wilcox (Bob) of Flatwoods, KY; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two great grandchildren on the way; and multiple nieces and nephews. She loved watching and cheering for her UK Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds, loved taking walks and sitting on her porch swing. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday September 19, 2016 at Miller Funeral Home with Bro. Ed Caudill officiating. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice 1480 Carter Ave. Ashland, KY 41101. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
