Frances Riggs, 88 of Ashland, died Tuesday January 6, 2015 at Hospice Care Center. She was born October 24, 1926 in Wytheville, VA the daughter of the late Charles E. and Evelyn Poston Aker. She was a co-founder of Rigg’s Machine Shop, attended Bridges Christian Church and was a homemaker. She was also a member of the birthday girls club; loved gardening, antiques and glassware; loved her Kentucky Wildcats; and loved being around her family especially the grand children, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition to parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John A. Riggs; a sister, Betty Wright; two brothers, Charles E. Aker and George W. Aker; a granddaughter, Belva Louise Coburn; and a great grandson, Jonathan Tucker Riggs. She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Coburn and husband Don of Ashland, Carolyn O’Neal and husband Ron of Catlettsburg, and Ellen Jane Burgett of Longwood, FL; one son, John Bert Riggs and wife Irene of Ashland; one sister, Mary Ward and husband Roy of Ashland; eight grandchildren, Ron, Robbie, Kelly, Scott, Brian, Traci, Lisa, and Johnny; 18 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a very special caregiver, Cindy Riffe of Boyd County, KY. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday January 9, 2015 at Miller Funeral Home with Pastor Mark McKinney and Steve Fraley officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice @ 1480 Carter Ave. Ashland, KY 41101.
