Elizabeth Darnell
August 23, 1926 - August 4, 2015
Known as "Granny" to many, Elizabeth Darnell was known to open her heart and home to many who crossed her path. From her front porch, she would give a hearty greeting, light scolding and quick smile to assure that all was well. Because of a close relationship with her four sisters, there was never a day-or even an hour-she missed to call one of them just to catch up and share what was happening. The beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 in Dayton, Ohio. Born August 23, 1926 in Mt. Sterling, "Betty" was one of several children for the late James and Ada B. White. More than 50 years ago, she moved to Ashland with her husband James Darnell, who passed away in 2012. Together, they built a home that was filled with love and enjoying family-particularly vacation travels to Gatlinburg and Orlando. She also devoted her time of service to Johnson Memorial C.M.E. Church. Her only son and critically-acclaimed screenwriter of the movie "Ray", James L. White, recently passed away in Santa Monica, CA. Betty, who will be deeply missed by family and friends, leaves behind a long legacy that includes her sister, Bernice White; three grandchildren, Monee Fields-White, James L. White, II and Martina E. White; one great grandchild, Amaya M. White; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth G. White; granddaughter-in-law, Anna M. White; many nieces including Paula Daugherty and Janet Thomas; and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 PM Monday August 10, 2015 at Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Daryl Williams officiating. Entombment will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time monday at the funeral home.
