Edna Rae Callihan

Edna Rae Callihan 1946-2024 Edna, Edna Rae, Mother, Granny, Aunt, Cousin, Friend, Nurse, Caregiver, Volunteer, Matriarch of the family. Her roles were many, and the lives she touched were endless. Her selfless 77 years exemplified how to love without reservation and accept without judgement, and ever single person and animal lucky enough to know her is better because of her. Edna Rae, an Edna Monk 2000 Nursing Excellence award recipient (and 1990 nominee) for her outstanding care, was know for her love of babies and compassion for mommies throughout the region. She also received the international Shire BRAVE Award in 2014 for her exceptional qualities in caregiving at home, and was honored most recently for 10 years’ service as a Hospice volunteer. It has been said she brought babies into the world in her younger years, and supported families when loved ones left the world in later years. She often shared her dream of hosting a Hospice for dogs, and although not officially, she provided that love and comfort for all of her fur babies. At home, Edna Rae loved cooking for everyone! Her vegetable dinners were second to none, and she was known for her peanut butter fudge and holiday hams. She was an avid reader, IPAD gamer, and porch sitter, and spent many mornings and evenings calling family member to check in and sing her original songs. She loved to dance, and enjoyed dressing up and cutting a rug at the Senior Citizens Center. She enlisted her family to ring bells each year for the Salvation Army, and she organized flower arrangements for loved ones at the cemetery. Edna Rae was a #1 fan for baseball, football, soccer, softball, basketball, gymnastics, and cheerleading, as she cheered loudly for her kids and grandkids through the years, and she could play a mean game of backyard baseball! Her weekends in the fall were spent with a pot of soup or chili on the stove and football on the TV, and her Christmas tree and hundreds of snowmen surrounded her as early as she could convince her family to decorate. She loved Christmas, baking, giving, and all the joys of the season. Her generous spirit was displayed as she delivered homemade candies and treats to bankers and gas stations. She left goodies for her mail man and paper deliverers each year. She was Grace and Light and Joy. She leaves a void on earth and is now an angel singing in Heaven. Those left to cherish her memory are, her three children, Clark Edward Nichols (Karen) of Lexington, Andrea Kaichi of Wurtland, Kendra Chapman (Danny) of Point Pleasant, WVa., two special daughters, Charon Fannin and Rachel Callihan-Wilson, three sisters, Denine Callihan, Denise Vaughn, Jeri (Mike) Brown, a special sister, Pat Glazier, nine grandchildren, Mariah Scott-White, Hunter Scott, MacKenzie Tomlin, Justice Chapman, Meredith Nichols, Miranda Schartiger, Ka-noa Kaichi, Matthew Nichols, Koapaka Kaichi, three great grandchildren, Sterling Scott, Walker Schartiger, Xander Tomlin, three special friends, Mary Lou, Nagatha, and Martha, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, family, an honorary grandson, Dewayne Yates, and her fur babies Bruno, Daphne, and Dolly. Funeral services for Edna will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 30th at Music Family Funeral Home with Chaplain John Callihan and Pastor Bobby Castle officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to service time at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Services will at begin 12:45 pm by the Nurse Honor Guard of the River Cities.
