Rev Curtis John McComis

October 27, 1920 - November 11, 2013

Rev. Curtis John McComis 93 of Ashland KY, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at his home. He was born October 27, 1920 in Ashland KY the son of the late Marion Sullivan McComis and Carrie Edna McComis. He was retired from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons as Chief of Mechanical Services from 1946 -1970, a WWII Navy veteran serving on the USS Tuscaloosa and the USS Wisconsin in the South Pacific from 1939 - 1945, a Southern Baptist Minister from 1950 - 2006, serving as pastor of the the following churches, 1st Pastor of Ashland Rose Hill Baptist Church, 1954 - 1959, Terre Haute IN 1st Southern Baptist Church, 1960 - 1964, Springfield MO Walnut Grove Baptist Church, 1964 -1967, Ashland Belmont Baptist Church, 1967 -2006, he was a member of the Rush Masonic Lodge #715 F&AM for 65 years and a 32nd Degree Mason. Curtis was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a daughter Nancy Charlotte McComis. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years Wanda Branham McComis, one son Curtis Michael McComis of St. Petersburg FL, one daughter Carrie McComis Brown and husband C.R. of Huntington WV, one step son Roy Brent Cox and wife Vonda of Ashland KY, two sisters Geneva Mullins of Louisville KY and Susan Frazier of Florida, one brother Bernard McComis of San Marina CA and one grandson Evan Cox of Ashland KY. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday November 14, 2013 at Miller Funeral Home by Rev. Stan Williams. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park with military services conducted by the Kenova American Legion Post 93. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral, with Masonic services conducted by the Rush Masonic Lodge at 7:00 PM Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Dana Branham, Evan Cox, C.R. Brown, Robert Wesley III, Riley Branham and Steve Manning. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association-ALZ.org on line, P.O. Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011.
