Betty Lou Queen

September 22, 1929 - January 10, 2019

Betty Lou Neal Queen, 89, of Ashland, my sweet momma, slipped peacefully away, Thursday, January 10, 2019 to be with her loved ones and friends who have gone on before her. I say sweet because she never had a cross word for anyone and she was always so appreciative of anything anyone did for her. She was born September 22, 1929 to Frank and Thelma Neal. She grew up in rural Catlettsburg, KY. She and two brothers were born within a three year period, so her grandmother, Nettie, played a big role in raising her. Betty called Nettie “My Angel” and she must have been to have ended up with such a kind and thoughtful gal. Betty was born a country girl and pretty much remained that all her life. She never met a stranger and always enjoyed bonding with older folks who needed the care or companionship. During her high school years, Betty would ride her bike in to Catlettsburg and she and a friend would catch the bus to Ashland to work at Murphy’s 5 & 10 cent store. She married my dad, Douglas Queen at age 19 and had me 10 months later. Betty worked at various family businesses through the years and was active with Meals on Wheels and visiting the shut-ins during her 50’s. She lost her husband in 1997 and is survived by her son and daughter in law, Doug and Susan; her granddaughter and family, Shannon, Chase and Henry; her grandson and family, Tyler, Sara and Mia and extended family and friends. Betty was a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church for 73 years. This can be witnessed by the fact that the finish is wore off the pew where she always sat. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Miller Funeral Home by Rev. David Herndon. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 2901 Winchester Ave. Ashland, KY 41101 or Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101. This was sort of long but thanks to all who read it and for caring.
