Susan Stevens Van Over

Susan Stevens Van Over, age 75, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Susan was born on June 14, 1950, in Ashland, KY, the daughter of Samuel T. Stevens and Maxine Davidson Stevens. She was a 1968 graduate of Paul Blazer High School in Ashland and continued her education at Morehead State University, majoring in Music. Susan was well known throughout the Ashland/Tri-State area for her beautiful singing voice. She performed lead roles in operas and operettas at both Morehead State University and in Talladega, Alabama, leaving lasting impressions with her talent and grace. On December 26, 1970, in Ashland, KY, Susan married the love of her life, James Everett Van Over, and together they shared 55 wonderful years. Susan embraced her role as a homemaker, wife, and mother with joy and devotion. Her family was her greatest priority, and some of her happiest moments were spent lovingly preparing meals and creating lasting memories around the family table. She will be remembered for her warm sense of humor, her culinary talent, and the deep love she poured into all she did. In 2005, Susan and her family made their home in Somerset, where she continued to enrich the lives of those around her. She was of Methodist faith. Susan is survived by her husband, James Van Over; her daughter, Lisa Susan Hall (Matthew Ferguson) of Somerset, KY; two grandchildren, Alaina Hall and Braden Hall; one great-grandchild, Jayce Hall; her brother, Samuel Timothy Stevens of Nancy, KY; and aunts and uncle Sue Honsted (Robert) and Linda Fairfield. She is also lovingly remembered by extended family members, neighbors, and friends who are saddened by her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Maxine Stevens. Visitation for Susan Van Over will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Clark officiating. Burial will be at Somerset Cemetery.
