Phillip Arthur May

Phillip Arthur May, 69, of Russell, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Friday morning, August 7, 2026, at his residence, with his loving wife, Janice, by his side. Phillip was born April 1, 1957, in Greenup, Kentucky, to the late Edward and Elma May. He was a man who brought laughter and warmth wherever he went, especially with his wife of 16 years, Janice. Phillip had a wonderfully crazy sense of humor and loved nothing more than joking around and sharing a good laugh with those he loved. Phillip was a man of Pentecostal faith and proudly served his country in the United States Navy before retiring from military service. He later retired from AK Steel, where he worked in the laboratory. In his free time, Phillip enjoyed playing Fortnite and golf, but some of his happiest memories were made on vacations in Florida with his family and beloved dogs, Rosie and Henry. He treasured time spent with the people he loved and created many memories that will be cherished forever. In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by his brothers, Ricky Joe, Paul, and David May, and his sister, Shirley Bums. Phillip leaves behind a loving family who will deeply miss his laughter, his humor, and the special way he made life more enjoyable. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janice May; his son, Jason May of California; his daughters, Rebecca May of California and Erin Bartlett (Michael) of Georgia; his stepson, Bobby Waddle of Coal Grove; Ohio; his stepdaughter, Bridget Remines of Coal Grove, Ohio; his brother, Danny May (Sandy) of Greenup; his sisters, Ruth White of Lexington and Sandy Adams of Winchester; seven grandchildren; one greatgranddaughter; and a special niece, Stephanie Brown. Though Phillip's passing leaves a great emptiness in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, his memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and countless moments shared with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for his family, and the joy he found in the simple things that made life special. Military graveside rites will be held at noon on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast, with Pastor Jimmy Harris officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Kenova American Legion Post 93 along with the Navy Honor Guard. Online condolences may be offered at www.mfhfuneralhome.com.
