Clara Mae McKenzie

Clara Mae Johnson McKenzie, 91, of Ashland passed away Sunday, June 5 at Ashland Community Hospice. Clara was born March 25, 1925 in Lexington, daughter of the late Harvey and Virgie Manning Johnson. Preceded in death by her husband J.R.(Bob) McKenzie, granddaughter Melissa Martin and great-grandson Nathaniel, sisters Katherine and Ruby Johnson, Charlotte Childers, Maxine Sansing, stepsons Tom, Bill, and Marshall McKenzie, stepdaughter Bette Thompson, and grandson Russell McKenzie. Survivors include children and stepchildren Jim (Linda) McKenzie of Tennessee, Paul (DeeDee) McKenzie of St. Petersburg, FL, Bobbe (Jim) Stapleton of Ashland, Miriam Meadows of Greenup, Vicki (Jeff) Lovins of Warrenton, VA, Jane McPeek of Ashland, Jon (Cindy) McKenzie of Chattanooga, Steven McKenzie of Georgetown, Dale (Kim) McKenzie of Ashland, and Beth McKenzie (John Weaver) of Lexington. Grandchildren Debbie Smith, James McKenzie, Donna McKenzie, Suzanne Bogden, Nancy Lee, Jan Thompson, Barbara Wente, Donna Dunn, Dawn Laswell, Jimmy Stapleton, Chuck Stapleton, Amy Mingledorf, Mike McKenzie, Mark McKenzie, Becky Hart, Patrick McKenzie, Lee Meadows, David Lovins, Emily Fenichel, Jason McPeek, Devin Hale, Rob McKenzie, Allison McKenzie, Kelly Arthur, Marilyn Halley, Isaac McKenzie, Ryan McKenzie, Meg McKenzie, Caitlin Neal, Darcy Streetman, and Quinn Adams, as well as many great-grandchildren and numerous great great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister Alice Perdue of Ceredo and brother Walter Johnson of Paintsville, niece Kathy Colm of Westwood as well as several other very special nieces and nephews. Clara was a graduate of Ashland High School, a member of the First Church of God, a hospice volunteer, a sensational cook, a singer of rare humorous songs, an influential babysitter to many children, and a friend to all. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Miller Funeral Home by John Weaver minister. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice or McKenzie Adams Scholarship Fund at Lindsey Wilson College.
